What is the truth, well, unfortunately for "X-Files: I Want to Believe" it might not be want you want to hear. Unless you are really fond of the characters Scully and Mulder, this movie is a typical one with a script that does not get started until way too long into the film.

It had been rumored it would be a stand alone, that worked for me, but as a fan of the television series I still needed something paranormal to remind me of that old show I knew and loved. Set in West Virginia, but shot in British Columbia, an ex-priest played excellently by Bill Connolly is seeing psychic visions, but it is questionable if he really is or not. We never really know because he dies, but the audience does not feel enough compassion overall to really care either.

The idea is that the FBI brings Mulder back to try and help them find a missing agent, but the story becomes so confusing we don’t know what happens and then another woman who has nothing to do with the FBI goes missing as well. Even though, Scully encourages Mulder to go back with the FBI she almost immediately has a problem with his decision. She also makes reference in a scene that he is only going back to help because of his sister, but the connection does not tie in at all and left me bewildered, what did I miss?

In the end, the bad guys are discovered, the priest dies and we don’t know anything more than we did except that Scully and Mulder have found true love.

Amanda Peet plays a tough FBI agent who ends up dead and rapper Alvin "Xzibit" Joiner also adds to the cast.

No aliens, no real excitement, that is other than the fact the Mulder and Scully are together again and they will always attract the dark side. A longer version of the television show, stand alone, but not really standing up to the expectations of X-Files fans.
